Climate protection

Our commitment to climate protection

CO2 avoidance

The company headquarters and private residence are in the same place. This eliminates all trips between home and work, as well as double heating.
No air travel for the company.
If possible we travel by train.
Our company vehicle is a hybrid vehicle with a range of approx. 40 km which can run on green electricity. We provide a flat rate compensation for the kilometers driven for business and private purposes as a whole.
We are currently purchasing fabrics domestically and attending fabric fairs domestically. As soon as we start traveling abroad, we will compensate for our trips.

CO2 compensation

So far we have compensated a flat rate for the amount of CO2 produced by household maintenance for our start-up company. (11 tons of CO2)
Most of our suppliers and producers are based in Germany or in a neighboring country.
We prefer small and medium-sized companies that pay attention to their CO2 balance due to their personal responsibility. Many companies do not yet have consistent monitoring.
Our shipping takes place with the best-rated shipping service provider in terms of its climate-protecting measures. DHL is currently offering climate-neutral shipping.

CO2 in the energy balance of the materials

We mostly use fabrics that have little or no synthetic fiber content. Since its raw material is of fossil origin, i.e. petroleum, synthetic fiber is viewed more and more critically as a fiber. For example, since 65 percent of all textile fibers on the world market were synthetic fibers in 2015, 98 million tons of oil were required. That's 1.2 billion CO2 equivalents (source: quarks.de). This means that more greenhouse gases are produced than international flights and shipping combined, namely 10% of global emissions. Ascending trend. Our fabrics are primarily made from (organic) cotton!

Nevertheless, we also use materials that are 'synthetic' or contain a proportion of synthetic fibers. Experience has shown that corduroy, for example
without Synthetic fiber content (organic cord) is much less durable. It loses fibers and structure and becomes rough and hard when washed. That doesn't seem sensible to us. Elastane is also a very important part of our pieces to give them the flexibility needed for riding. But if you prefer to wear pure organic fashion, you will also find what you are looking for here. For example, the Jaquette_2 blue is made of moleskin. Moleskin and seam covering are both organic cotton fabrics.

According to quarks.de, organic cotton is preferable to conventionally grown cotton because it uses significantly less water and is often grown on small farms. Two of our suppliers look after the farmers in the producing country themselves to support the much more complex cultivation.

Overall, none of our suppliers can yet provide a verifiable CO2 balance for their goods.

For us, the material produced domestically or at least in a European country is absolutely superior to any overseas production in terms of the CO2 balance, which is simply in transport.

The more we can evaluate data about the CO2 balance of the substances ourselves, the more precisely we can develop monitoring over time in order to ultimately be able to compensate better. To this end, we plan to work with the platform myclimate.org, which already covers compensation for the areas mentioned.

One thing is certain: CO2 is involved in the production of every piece of clothing and therefore its longevity is a very important factor. The less we need new clothes and enjoy our things, the less CO2.

But there is another very important aspect that ultimately has an effect on our personal CO2 balance when wearing a piece of clothing.

'80 percent of a textile's ecological footprint is created in the user phase, i.e. in our home.' writes Dr. Alexandra Schweikart in CAMP4's outdoor magazine 'RAUSZEIT' Summer 2023 issue. What this means is how often a piece of clothing needs to be washed. If you 'only' have to ventilate or brush out, that's clearly an advantage. With this criterion in mind, our corduroy trousers are really great. Dust and horse hair, omnipresent in the context of riding, can simply be shaken or brushed off. You can wear corduroy for a long time without washing it! Read more about
